Young People Build Their Robots with SPIKE Prime
Young People Explore the World of Robotics
As part of “Mind Games, Digitalisation and Disaster Awareness: A Journey towards the Future for Young People”, KOZ-DER organised robotics and coding training with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Türkiye. Guided by trainer Sami Özkan, participants were introduced to SPIKE Prime and built their own robots.
The training created opportunities to work with technology through practical activities and turn ideas into physical models. Sessions using robotics kits and computers brought learning together with designing, assembling and trying out their creations.
Hands-on Learning with SPIKE Prime
Participants explored SPIKE Prime kits and assembled components to create robot models. Activities guided by Sami Özkan offered opportunities to experience robotics step by step.
While building their robots, young people observed how different components came together within a model. Work with computers provided an opportunity to explore the relationship between robot construction and coding. The training highlighted designing and creating with technology alongside using it.
From an Idea to a Robot: Learning by Doing
Practical activities enabled participants to turn ideas into tangible creations. Choosing components, assembling them and examining the resulting models formed the hands-on stages of learning.
The activities aimed to support problem-solving, analytical thinking, creativity and digital skills. Considering different options and improving their work through experimentation were valued throughout the process. The robots provided visible examples of participants’ practical work during the training.
Creating and Sharing Together
Young people gathered around training tables to work with robotics kits and share the experience of creating. Shared activities provided space for interaction and learning from one another’s work.
The robotics and coding component valued social participation alongside digital skills. The photo gallery brings together moments from exploring the kits, building robots and taking part in the training.
Development Opportunities for Disaster-Affected Young People
Designed to empower young people in Kilis affected by the 6 February earthquakes, the project received TRY 910,000 in grant support and was planned with an implementation schedule of approximately eight months. The programme for young people aged 14–29 brought together mind games, robotics and coding, digital skills, disaster awareness, psychosocial support and cultural-social activities.
Robotics training formed part of the programme’s approach to creating opportunities to make things with technology and gain new learning experiences. Digital and cognitive skills were addressed alongside shared learning and social participation.
Thank You
KOZ-DER thanks the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Türkiye for its support, our trainer Sami Özkan for guiding young people during the robotics and coding training, our organising team and all participating young people.
We continue to create spaces where young people can explore technology, bring their ideas to life and learn together in solidarity.
