Bulgaria Erasmus+ Experience

July 21, 2025

I am Ömer Fırat Külekçi. Between 21.07.2025 and 03.08.2025 I took part in an Erasmus+ programme in Bulgaria. That experience last summer became one of the most valuable periods of my life. Being in another country, among other cultures, gave me the chance to know both myself and the world better.

First Days, Meeting New People

When I first joined the programme I naturally felt a little excited and shy. Being in the same space as people I had never met looked challenging at first, but that changed very quickly. As I met participants from other countries I realised we were all feeling similar things. That made communication easier, and good friendships formed fast.

I saw that what matters is not so much where people come from but the energy they bring. Even though we spoke different languages, sharing the same excitement brought us together very quickly.

Activities and What I Gained

Throughout the programme we took part in many activities that were both enjoyable and instructive. Through group work, cultural exchange and various activities we did not only have a good time; we also built important skills such as teamwork, communication and empathy.

Learning new things while everyone introduced their own culture was a real pleasure. Seeing each other’s traditions, ways of life and perspectives helped me understand that difference is something that enriches you.

A New Country, a New Perspective

In our free time we had the chance to explore the city we were in. Seeing new places and experiencing daily life in another country gave me a completely different perspective. It was fascinating to see how even small details change from country to country.

Sometimes the layout of a street, sometimes people’s daily habits, sometimes just the atmosphere of a city can teach you a great deal. During my time in Bulgaria I did not only join a programme; I also had the chance to observe a new rhythm of life.

What I Noticed About Myself

The programme did not only bring me new friendships; it increased my confidence. I learned to express myself even in situations where I might previously have held back. Being able to communicate with different people and adapt to new environments was real growth for me.

The experience showed me that a person can do far more than they think. Going to a new country, meeting new people and putting yourself forward in an unfamiliar environment looks hard at first, but by the end it gave me a great deal.

In Conclusion

The Erasmus+ experience was both enjoyable and instructive for me. It gave me a lot in terms of meeting new people, experiencing other cultures and growing. I think opportunities like this should certainly be taken, because they genuinely widen your perspective and offer an unforgettable experience.

For me it will always be a special memory that I remember warmly.
