Hello everyone,

I am Fatma Uytun. The two months I spent volunteering in Bulgaria were not just a project for me: they were a deep learning process about personal growth, solidarity and human relationships. I volunteered on the ART EVS – Children with Special Needs project under the European Solidarity Corps (ESC).

Before the project started I wondered what it would be like to live in another country and adapt to a new culture. But from the very first days, the sincerity and warmth we met made me feel part of the community.

My Volunteering

Throughout the placement we ran daily activities, art sessions and joint work. Putting the pieces we made for the Children with Special Needs Association on sale let us see our effort turn into concrete benefit, and made the meaning of our work far more tangible.

The project taught me how meaningful it is to work and create together, to build empathy and to stand in solidarity.

What This Experience Gave Me

Over those two months I did not only contribute as a volunteer. I also grew in confidence and learned how important it is to build bonds with people from other cultures.

When I left Bulgaria I left behind more than a project: people who left a mark on my heart, unforgettable memories and experiences that will stay with me for life.

This volunteering journey showed me how strong solidarity, understanding and human connection can be. My time volunteering in Bulgaria will remain one of the most meaningful and unforgettable parts of my life.
