Hello, I am Büşra.

Between 18 July and 11 September 2025 I took part in a European Solidarity Corps (ESC) volunteering project in Katerini, Greece. It was an instructive, developmental and transformative experience for me, both personally and professionally.

The project was built around two themes: the social pharmacy and sustainable agriculture. Both gave me a closer view of social solidarity and of living in harmony with nature.

The Social Pharmacy

Throughout the project I took part in social pharmacy activities, working to make medicines more accessible to people in need. In doing so I came to understand better that public health is not only an individual matter but a strong area of social responsibility.

Working with volunteers from other cultures improved my capacity for empathy. I learned that solidarity is a universal value not only in theory but through everyday life. Being part of work that touches people directly was one of the most meaningful aspects of the project for me.

Sustainable Agriculture and Connecting with Nature

In the agricultural work I had the chance to observe and practise sustainable production methods on the ground. Being in contact with the soil, becoming part of the production process and learning practices that live in harmony with nature were very valuable to me.

The experience increased my environmental awareness while helping me see more deeply how necessary and meaningful sustainable living is. Seeing the great effort and the delicate balance with nature behind so much of what we consume without noticing made a strong impression on me.

Intercultural Learning and Personal Growth

During my time in Katerini I did not only take part in project activities; I also developed everyday life skills. Engaging with other cultures, living alongside new people and taking responsibility within an international team gave me a great deal.

I had the chance to use my English communication skills actively. Working with people from other countries towards a shared aim increased my confidence and widened my perspective. Every conversation, every experience and every piece of joint work taught me something new.

What This Left with Me

The ESC volunteering project did not only give me new knowledge; it built my awareness of social responsibility, environmental consciousness and intercultural communication. It became a strong source of motivation as I shape my future academic and professional goals.

My time volunteering in Greece was valuable both for getting to know myself and for seeing the world from a wider perspective. Thank you to everyone who contributed to an experience that will always hold a special place in my life.
