Keeping young people safe

Safeguarding Policy

Every young person taking part in our activities, training and mobilities has the right to be safe. This page explains how we work and what you can do if you have a concern.

If someone is in immediate danger, call 112 now. For social support and advice: ALO 183. Confidential report form ↓

Who does it cover?

This policy covers all young people taking part in our local events, clubs, training, Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps (ESC) mobilities, and all board members, staff, trainers, mentors, volunteers and partner organisations involved in these activities.

Our principles

Zero tolerance

We do not tolerate any form of abuse, harassment, bullying, discrimination or exploitation — physical, emotional, sexual, online or financial.

The young person comes first

Every concern is taken seriously. The safety and wellbeing of the young person outweigh any other consideration, including the reputation of the association.

Never one-to-one in private

Activities with participants under 18 take place in open or visible spaces, with at least two adults responsible for the group.

Parental consent

Participants under 18 take part only with written consent from a parent or guardian, including for travel and photographs.

Photos and personal data

We share images only with consent and never publish contact details, addresses or school information of young people. Personal data is processed under our privacy notice.

Official channels only

Staff, trainers and volunteers communicate with young people through the association’s group channels, not private messages, and never ask for personal photos.

Safe mobilities

Before every exchange or volunteering period we brief participants on safety, insurance, emergency contacts and their rights, and stay in contact throughout.

Equal and respectful

Everyone is welcome regardless of nationality, language, religion, gender, disability or background. Foreign-national young people get information in a language they understand.

Code of conduct for our team

Our staff, trainers, mentors and volunteers read and sign these rules before taking on a role.

  • Treat every young person with respect and dignity.
  • Do not be alone with a participant under 18 behind closed doors.
  • Do not contact participants through private messages or personal social media.
  • Do not take, share or keep photos without consent.
  • Do not give alcohol, tobacco or medicine to participants under 18.
  • Report any concern to the safeguarding lead the same day.
